Extract from a speech for an employee’s leaving party:
Welcome, everyone, who has joined this throng
To bid farewell to Mr Hong.
The managers made a great decision when
They appointed the redoubtable Len
To be the bursar of the staff,
To cook the books and make us laugh.
He joined the office in 2003.
In his office he works efficiently.
With a razor sharp wit, a master of the pun,
He can even make a staff meeting fun.
Extract from a speech for father of the bride:
Welcome, friends and family on this happy day.
Especially those who’ve come from far away,
John has come from sunny Spain,
Peter and Grace from fair French terrain.
Ah, I see that there’s a merry band
Who have come hotfoot from Northern Ireland.
And from that distant Far East shore,
James has flown from Singapore.
And old school friends have joined the throng
Of celebrations, wine and song.
We are delighted to host this celebration.
For parents there is no occasion in life,
Approached with greater trepidation,
Than giving up a daughter to become a wife.
Extract from a speech for a retirement party:
Back in the autumn, 1970,
Went Brian Wilson, full of glee,
To Avery College, south of the city,
A student teacher, cool and witty.
This young man, I have heard tell,
In drama lessons did excel.
His performances were loved so well.
Story telling was his thing.
Our Brian could make the classes ring
With laughter, when a yarn he spun,
And in the pub he was great fun.
